Islamic State is the Enemy of the People of Indonesia

The Islamic State (IS) movement has no place in Indonesia. Most Indonesian do not want the group to presence in the country. This is the result of a survey conducted by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC).
The survey revealed that over 62 percent of 1,220 respondents were aware IS. Of that figure, over 95 percent rejected the presence of IS in Indonesia. 0.3 percent wanted to see the IS established in Indonesia. Up to 90 percent of the respondents aware of the group saw IS as the threat to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and the same percentage against terror methods endorsed by IS ideology.
The survey conducted between December 10 and December 20 in all provinces, also indicated that the rejection of the IS spread evenly across gender, ethnicity, religion, region and occupation.
The survey revealed that around 63 percent of people with an elementary-level education and those who earned less than Rp 1 million ($72) a month did not know what IS was. Similarly, around 60 percent of female respondents above the age of 55, and 47 percent of respondents living in the villages, were also unaware of the group.
There were indications that biggest supporters to IS come from younger age brackets compare to other age groups. Around four percent of 22 to 25 year-olds and five percent of people who were still in school or university and who knew of IS agreed with the group's position.
These findings are in line with data released by the US-based Pew Research Center in November 2015. The data, collected from 11 countries with significant Muslim populations, including Indonesia, overwhelmingly expressed a negative view of IS. However, the SMRC survey also indicated that there were sizable groups of people who had little information on the terrorist group.
The output of survey by SMRC has informed us about the majority of Indonesian’s people has been understood about Islamic State and they had opinion Islamic State wasn’t representated Islam. Islamic State with their act’s before which beheaded innocent people in several countries showed IS is gangsters and criminals killing innocents and perverting Islam. IS attracts feeble minded people with mental disorders and is a form of slavery which profits a few despots. Furthermore, IS certainly has no appeal for intellectual and decent people. Besides that, actually the core of ISIS is a secular. Now of course it is polluted by The Afghans Taliban, The Chechen, and surely funded by Saudi Arabia wahhabism.
From the result of SMRC survey, we must alert on fact that 0.3 percent of respondents wanted to see the Islamic State movement established in Indonesia. Eventhough, just only 0,3 percent of respondents it’s mean there are IS supporters in Indonesia. It may show that the government’s deradicalization program to fight terrorism is not running well. Therefore, the government’s should go deep into the root of by taking more concrete actions to fight poverty, inequality, bad healthcare system, better education for the masses, etc.
What Next ?
However, radicalism, terrorism and sectarian conflicts areamong main problem in Indonesia that can wreak a havoc at anytime and anywhere.
Realizing that, the government, informal figure, academia, youth leader, NGO actors and last but not least mass media have a significant role to maintaining hatred to the IS. They too, supposed to become role model to boost Indonesian nationalism, respect on pluralism, peaceful religious speech etc. We must aware of the fact there are more people brainwashed every single day by speeches that full of anger and hatred delivered by hard line clerics.
To materialize it, the government should not allow the dissemination hatred of religion, race, and ethnic. The government should do anything it takes to convince everyone that Pancasila as an ideology, which is also a means of unifying Indonesian people today and tomorrow. ,
It is no doubt that they supposed to persuade their fans or supporters in order to maintain the spirit of togetherness and to protecting their neighborhood from any negative influence that bad for the country.
Academia must be educate their students about the threat of radicalism, terrorism and sectarian conflict to all of humankind. Academia conduct thorough research about negative impact of terrorism to our nation, and they should be cooperating with the government. .
The role of NGO as the government partners to disseminate positive message to the people about nationalism, close cooperation against terrorism, radicalism and the hateful speech.
Last but not least, mass media should not hesitate to black list messages of and to block news that benefit terrorists. As has been repeatedly revealed, terrorist groups love to promulgate their messages or thought through mass media. Peace journalism is so important today amid the increasing threat of terrorism, where Coverage of terrorist activities carried out in a very selective and cautious in the public interest.
